I won this book in the Goodreads give-a-way for my honest thoughts.
Now, with that said, let's get started.
As I was about to put up this review, I realize this book is in a series and it is the fourth book in that series but it reads like a stand alone so I'm assuming it may be more of a companion. I may go back and look for the others in the series so I can get the history of the families in this book. That may be hard for me to do because once I know what happens, it's hard for me to go back because I've been spoiled. I will at least try though.
This is only the second book I have read by Debbie Macomber and although I really enjoyed her previous book The Inn at Rose Harbor, this one, I can say is my favorite so far. Although she would get very repetitive (especially in the beginning & a little in the middle/towards the end), it was still a really good book. I still go between a 3.5-4 out of 5 stars, mostly because of how repetitive it is (finally settled on a 4/5 stars) This book has dual points of view going between Shay and Drew but it, for me, was still very much easy to follow what was going on.
I typically do not enjoy Christian books, not totally sure what it is about them that just doesn't allow me to get into them. I had never looked up Debbie Macomber (even after reading her first book) to see the type of writer she was, which I guess is a good thing because that may have had me steer clear of her books. Not because I'm not a believer, because I am, but because I just can't get into them as I stated before. I think most for me are just slow and drag. This one and her previous had it's slow times but her writing seems to keep your attention enough to want to see what happens in the book.
I do have one more book that is a part of the series in my room that I will get to soon enough. I am going to take each book I go into on an individual basis and just hope I like each one I pick up. This book gave me new hope on reading others. I didn't go into this one with my hopes too high, I just hoped that I would enjoy it enough to finish it. Well, I did!
The day I got this book, it was just calling to me to read it. I planned on just reading the first page or two to see what I thought and it pulled me in immediately! And throughout this book, I just felt like it was a breath of fresh air, that fresh air I was needing this week! Whenever I was reading it, I felt my depression lift, but when I closed it, it hit me again. I am needing more books like this in my life! Ones that just makes you feel better. Ones that the characters give you hope for your own life. This book did that for me.
I had hoped I would finish it before or on the day it came out (August 8, 2017) but I didn't get it until under a week it was due to come out and I am a bit of a slow reader and have to live in reality most of the time, so I had to put the book down quite a bit. And some moments, I just didn't feel like reading because I was not feeling 100% myself.
This book came into my life right on time & thank God for Goodreads and me finally winning a book!
