My Thoughts

Audio:

It was very easy to listen to Kyle narrate this book. He has that voice you like listening to. I don't know much about him beyond this book and definitely know nothing about his church, something I may look into soon.

Book:

(I get a bit long winded, so get you something to drink, a snack and read on)

When did I first learn of this book? Right around Oct/Nov 2011 at a church I was attending at the time and did the "Not a Fan" group. I did enjoy the group tremendously, it had me thinking and wanting to be closer to Jesus. Now, since then, I know I have fallen short quite a bit and my relationship with God & Jesus has dwindled but I can also say, it is still stronger than it had been in my teens and 20's. I still have a long way to go!

When I went to find the book at the library, I don't remember being able to find it. I do think I found the book else where but kept talking myself out of it because of the price and/or just wasn't feeling it at the time. Well, I guess I was meant to find it in a time of my life that I was meant to have it.

Now, I will be honest at this point, I tend to get a bit bored reading christian nonfiction, even fiction sometimes but I can find more fiction I can get through fairly easy over nonfiction. I am trying to get into them more because I know I need it for my spiritual life and to help me apply the scriptures better in my life in ways I may not always know the HOW of what to do. Some, may take issue with that statement because they are just so wonderful at doing it "on their own" but then there are the rest of us, they may need a little help along the way and that is why God put people in our path that can do that. Whether that be pastors/bishops, writers, friends, etc. I am one of the latter as I already stated. Maybe one day, I can "do it on my own" but sometimes, I feel like, I still need that encouragement from hearing someone speak and say something that I may be dealing with and that it's okay (I've had some have an issue with that too, but I guess that is where human difference comes in, some may be fine without it, while some of us sometimes need to hear encouragement in discouraging times, which is why gathering together at your place of worship and/or friends is a great thing).

Oh, the book....Ahem

What did I think?

Well, it had me wanting to go deeper into certain areas of the bible to make sure I am truly understanding some things. I understand the bible says things he spoke of but I know that what he is saying, can be taken out of context and people lose that balance. Interpretation can be a tricky thing for some people and that's when issues arise in churches (or any place of worship/belief systems) and/or families.

Overall?

It gave me a lot to think about. This will probably be a book I try to pass around and give to people I think might want to read it and/or maybe they know someone who needs it or has been wanting to read it. I know, for me, I need to learn to be more than just a fan and be a better follower. I don't know what that entails for me personally but hopefully I will begin to figure it along this journey called life.

More thoughts & semi disclaimer:

Those who may have come on here who aren't believers, angry with God, or whatever your case may be, we all have the free will to believe or not believe, all I can ask is that you at least make a good attempt to believe and see what happens. If you can believe in oxygen, something you can't see but know it's there because you're here reading this. Air that you can't see but sometimes feel when wind comes along. You can take a chance.

For those who think "If there was a God, why is he allowing so much evil?"

Well, my always answer to that is "The rule is, there is an opposite to everything (that I can think of anyway)" & that "He gives us all free will to choose"

(You don't want someone to force you to do something do you? So why would you expect God to do it with others? You are given at least two choices in situations, it is up to you which you choose)

Where there is an up, there has to be a down. Where there is black, you have white. Where there is anger, you have happiness. To have good, you must have evil, how else will you know there is one without the other? God has given us free will to choose so it is not up to me to force anything on anyone. It is just up to me to share what I personally know and believe and allow you to make your decision from there. For the respect I show others, I expect the same respect in return. Also, all of that being said, I am in no way perfect. I screw up daily and I do mean daily. I have a temper, sometimes use language I shouldn't, yell at my kids when normal voice will do. God isn't expecting perfection, what he want's is you! imperfections and all. The imperfections are what keep you closer to Him. He will change your life but life is a constant progress, working, changing, slips, fails, etc but that's okay, get up, dust off and try again. Day by day, moment by moment, etc. Things will not be easy with him because life isn't always easy but to me, life is definitely much harder without him and the holy spirit to guide you.

Now, I know this is supposed to be about this book but I can't discuss this book without going a bit deeper. If you need a start, this is a great place to start. Just go into it with balance, come out with balance and go with what you know God is calling you to do. Not someone else!

If you've read this far! Thank you for your patience! lol

My Thoughts:

Book:

As always, I really enjoyed this book! I found myself laughing out loud on almost every page. This one, I think is one of my favorites in the series. The characters as always, I adore! I love the banter and relationships with the 3 best friends. The romance and the imperfectly perfect way they all deal with each other.

I love the parents, uncles, pets, everything and everyone (not the bad people of course)! Oh, and pets? There was a new edition to the one that was there and I loved her too! As cute as she is, I am not quite as attached to her, yet, as I am the cat Captain Jack! Unfortunately, I am allergic to cats but I can just take a claritin and love on him all day! I hope (still have to factor in itchy eyes, but they have drops for that too I guess). But, I'm sure that if there are at least one or two more books, I will fall in love with the pooch even more!

I am hoping for at least one more book where one of my favorite couples gets married but if I had it my way, I would like another two books to see two more couples get married off as well. Then, see some babies born among 2 of those 3 couples (one couple is a bit past child bearing years with grown kids and grandkids lol).

So, basically, yes, I want more! This is one series I can definitely say is my favorite and I look forward to reading and that I pay full price for (which full price isn't too bad at [up to] $7.99 on amazon brand new).

I really don't think I have a whole lot to say about this book and even if I did, I wouldn't want to give too much away as this is the 10th book in a series. They work more like companions but there are some things carried over from previous books of course, like relationships and people disliking each other and reasons possibly given in previous books. I don't think you need to read them in order but I would suggest you do to make it easier to keep up with, although she does give some level of back story in each book.

Here is the list of the name of the books in this series: Cupcake Bakery Mystery Series.

My Thoughts

Audio:

She was really good. Made what would have been a rough go with this book, even easier to get through. Not because of it being a bad book because it wasn't, but because of the topic.

Book:

I literally just finished this book (typed as I was listening to the last bit of it) and this was not an easy book to read/listen to because of the topic of abuse, forgiveness and family who are separated, much, because of unforgiving and anger. But, as with what seems to be Debbie Macomber books, there will always be a great ending, even if not always a happy one. Actual reality in much of the areas of the ending.

I loved Cassie & Steve. It took some time to like Steve but I knew by the end, I would. Amiee, Cassie's 12 year old daughter, was all of that 12 year old! A bit much for me and sometimes made me want to reach through the book and shake her! Overall, she was a smart kid though. I was glad to see things work out for the best for Cassie, she really and truly deserved it. And there is a huge love for KFC by someone in this book and I do mean a huge love! 😄

I got this book because I read another book in this companion series that, at the time, I didn't know it was. I had won Any Dream Will Do in a giveaway (Goodreads if I remember correctly) and I loved it! When I realized it was a part of the series, I said I would go back to the first book. I am looking forward to the second in this series hoping I do enjoy it. So far, of the two, Any Dream Will Do is truly my favorite. It came during a time in my life that I needed it. The hope, the love, the coming of age story that I so needed to read.

                                                            My Thoughts:

Audio:
I really enjoyed listening to her, from the moment I turned her on until the end.

Book:
I don't remember exactly when I started this book but when I initially started reading it, I just couldn't stay with it (was reading it on my own at this point). So, I finally put it down not quite sure if I'd continue on but I found the audio book on scribd.com and when I started the book, I still wasn't quite sure if I'd continue on with the story because I didn't think I'd be in the mood for it but I listened for about 5 minutes or so past that "Not sure if I want to read this one" and a few hours later, I find myself more than 300 pages in (when I restarted it, I was 115 pages in). So, I guess I was in the mood for it! 😂

As with the first two books, I really did love the main characters (Laurie, her father, son & her interest, Alex). The books are centered around a TV show they do called Under Suspicion and them trying to figure out the "whodunit".

Q. Did the person and/or people I suspect actually do it?!?!
A. Nope. Not at all. I felt they were a bit of a jerk but not the killer. I even suspected others that turned out to actually be decent people.

These are the first books I have ever read by M.H.C. and I am really enjoying them. I will more than likely do a catch up on this series before I try going on to any other and see what I think of those. So far, there are 5 total books in this series with the final one coming out in 2017. I'm not quite sure when I will get to the next one in this series but next time I go book shopping at my local used book store, I will probably take a scan through their mass paperback section hoping I can find the next few in this size (first book I have in hardcover and larger, maybe I'll get that one in MMP as well).

Do you have to read the first book to read any part of this series? Well, I guess not really as they are more companions than anything but I think to get an idea of what's going on, I would at least read the first book (I've Got You Under My Skin) to understand how everything got started. And maybe you'll be able to kind of jump around after that but seeing that I am only on the third book at this point, I am saying the "jump around" very lightly because I don't know yet if any of these books go into being related in any kind of way other than some of the characters go from book to book (Laurie, Alex, Laurie's Dad and her son and her other co-workers of course).

Some things (character thoughts) may be considered spoilerish to some, although I don't give too much in go but some, like me, can see the smallest thing was a spoiler.

Audio:
I think I liked her more than the book itself much of the time I was listening.

Book:
The book started off really Meh but got a bit better the further I went along. I'm always iffy at the start of Sarah Dessen books but many times, by the end of it all, I end up enjoying many of them quite a bit. But still holding my favorite spot is: The Truth About Forever. I am gradually trying to work through all of her books. I still have one or two on my shelves (that I own) to get through before I will consider buying whatever is left of her books.

But, onto this book and it's characters:

Haven: I was glad to finally see her come into herself
Ashley: By the end, I was able to understand her and like her a little more.
Sumner: With things that went on, I still liked him at the end
The Parents: Mom, I liked. Dad, too self absorbed. Mid-life crisis much?
The BFF: um...well, not quite sure what to think about her, even by the end of the book.

A good coming of age story that I was glad to see even if I didn't always agree how things went down. Both as a parent and as an adult knowing how things could end up when certain things take place.
