My Rambles:

I don't think I have a whole lot to say about this book except it wasn't what I expected when I put it on hold at my local library. It wasn't until I opened it up that I noticed it was like a little picture book & how animals live in the now. How animals can be happy because they aren't worried about anything like humans are. How helpful animals are to humans because of the unconditional love of the animals towards their human.  It really is a sweet little book that will be a favorite for me for a long time to come, maybe even "forever". Putting healing with animals? How much better can that be?!?

This will be a book I will do my best to buy and have on my shelf for a long time to come. If nothing else can be left for my sons as an "inheritance", it will be some of my favorite books and some of those that I will hope they will get some use out of in their lives. Others, just to say "my mom liked these a lot. May not be my thing but this is what she loved!" And hopefully, eventually, a love of reading. My sons aren't huge readers right now but maybe one day they will be. I wasn't big on reading at their ages either (late teens and early 20s) but by my early 30s, I became a consistent reader. And glad to be back into nonfiction again.

My Rambles:

Now, I must say, of the four books I have read by Morgan Matson so far, this one is my favorite. This gives me hopes of other books but not too much because I don't want to go into another book with my hopes too high. The first few books I read: Since You've Been Gone, Amy & Roger's Epic Detour, The Unexpected Everything, were good enough for me to finish but I lost interest pretty quickly in some parts. I even stopped  reading Unexpected Everything for a while because I had gotten bored. It wasn't a bad book but I think it just wasn't what I wanted at that time. I think I did the same with Amy & Roger's Epic Detour. I can say though, I think Amy & Roger's was my least favorite. I don't know what it is about it though, it wasn't horrible, I just couldn't connect with it. I think I finished the first three because I just wanted to know what happened. Many times, when I'd try authors in the past that I didn't like their books, I wouldn't try any more of them, maybe I need to rethink some authors (I know there will probably be some I still won't give another try to though).

This one though, even with a couple of frustrating parts, I loved this book. I was able to connect with everyone more. I could fall in love with more of the characters. Even the ones I really didn't like much I was able to enjoy a bit more. I went into this book knowing how I am about Matson's books. 

Why do I keep reading them if I am so iffy with them? I don't know. I am like that with Sarah Dessen as well but the difference is between Dessen and Matson...the first book I read and finished by Dessen, I loved, so, I keep trying. In hopes I find one more gem in her books that I can love again (there is one I doubt I will ever read though, I think it's called Dreamland, seems too sad/depressing). 

I am glad that I kept giving Matson a try though because if I hadn't, I wouldn't have found this one. 

Charlie's relationship with one of her brothers reminds me a lot of the relationship I have with my oldest brother in some ways. I have always felt closer to him, a bit more connected to him compared to my other two brothers. My other siblings period (there's a lot of us too, 8 total and it's a "complicated" story at that lol).

I seem to love books around family the most, whether it is the main characters family or a family they end up mixing into. I think it's because I don't have the best relationship with my family, my mom or biological father's side. Although I do get along with my biological father's side more, I think that's mostly because we don't talk as often. And maybe that's the best thing because I know that some things I wouldn't have the patience for. lol

So, I guess I found my favorite trope, when I kept thinking I didn't really have one. I'd like to find more "fill in/fake boyfriend" type of tropes too in order to see if that would be my thing too if done right.

Reread (2nd time)-I never thought I'd be the one who reread books but here I am, doing a lot of rereading, especially lately. Mostly, because I need it! I need the comfort of old books & reminders on why I liked some others (or, well, a bit of both in some cases).

Okay, so, I forgot to do my thoughts on this book. So, uh, here it is....

I enjoyed this book as much as I did the first time I read it in August 2017. I adored the characters, except that one that made you want to just shake them. This was the first book I ever read/listened to by Kasie West & it was during a time I was struggling emotionally. "Coincidentally" enough, when I chose to reread it (which I had been wanting to do for a while), I was struggling again emotionally & it got me through another rough patch. I have since read every book by her that she has out to date, except Snow In Love (that I plan on making an attempt to get to eventually, I hope) & plan on getting her new book that I just found out comes out on May 4, 2021 as I was typing this up. I had to double check to make sure I hadn't missed a book. And, I added the book that may be coming out next year to my want to read list on Goodreads. So, if it isn't evident already, she is definitely an auto buy author for me. There are some books I like more than others of course and this being my favorite but I just adore her writing and the characters she writes about.

Well, this is my second time re-reading this trilogy. I wanted to see if I enjoyed it as much as I did the first time I read it. Although I don't remember details of the story, I do remember some things & who I think may be involved in the drama. And I forgot how much of a cliff hanger it left on! But, did I enjoy it as much as the first time? Probably not. I got a tiny bit bored but thankfully, this time, I had the audio book (but wasn't really into audio books when I read it the first time but now, I use audio books to keep me reading because I just don't have the patience to just sit and read. I like to multi task now).

The narrator was good. She had that "I'm trying to be sexy" whisper thing going. That is the best way I can think to explain it now. I'm not fond of that type of reading but it is easy to tune out most of the time. 

I do own all three books so I can go on to the final book when I feel like going into it and can get ahold of the audiobook for it. 

If you haven't read this trilogy, it is worth trying. It may not be amazing but it is an interesting concept. Maybe see if you can rent it from your library (e-book or physical-if you can get to the library in this time). The name of the first book is called Shadowlands.

My Rambles:

I can say that I do love this series, I mean, if I didn't, I don't think I would have made it 6 books in. This one though, I kept getting bored a bit. I don't know if it was me or the book. Or, maybe a bit of both. I still love all of the characters. Some I wanted to shake some sense into but again, overall, I did really enjoy the book. Great to see some finally allowing themselves to be happy and all of my favorite side characters showing up in the books and one more showing up that I think I will fall in love with if/when another book comes out. 

I would consider this to be the back up series for me when it comes to her books. The Cupcake Bakery Mystery series being my favorite from her. I am considering giving her Library series another try to see if things change for me. I loved the characters but there just always seemed to have been that "something missing" element for me that I couldn't enjoy it as much as I would have liked even though the books weren't bad at all. Maybe I went in expecting too much. This series was a bit of a slow start for me but eventually, I began looking forward to these as well, but, not as much as the Cupcake Bakery series. 

She should have more books coming out this year in this one and of course, the CBM series too. So, I am looking forward to both and hopefully I won't forget to buy them again and end up not picking them up until close to the end of the year this time, but, I mean, 2020 was a very strange year. lol

Gilmore Girls Readathon Wrap Up

I didn't do a blog stating I was starting this because with my reading history lately, I wasn't sure how I would do. Well, I did pretty okay considering that I haven't been "wanting" to read much over the last few months or so. So, here is my wrap up for the readathon that I actually finished two whole books (listened to on audio). Both of which were re-reads that I had been wanting to re-read anyway. I also read at a children's book or two. But the three books I put down fit prompts. 

This readathon took place November 15-22, 2020 and this is the second year it took place but the first one I participated in. I didn't hear about the one last year until October of this year.

My thoughts this time?

I gave it an extra .75 because I loved it that much more this time. I guess because I missed the characters so much. I loved the characters as much as I did before and still laughed just as hard. My favorite detective shows up in this book although he wasn't my favorite in this one. I found myself still getting a bit annoyed at some parts and wanting to shake a few people. This is still one of my favorite series. This is one that, these last couple of years or so, I get the new book within a couple months of it coming out but of course, this year has been a bit much and I ended up forgetting about her new books (in this series and one other) that came out. I hope to get them soon because I miss the characters. 

I personally like a lot of the cozies around restaurants/food for some reason (came across a few I wasn't feeling because the writing just wasn't my thing). If you have never read this series, it is a pretty long one, it is soon to be 13 books. I started reading this series in 2015 some months before book 8 was coming out. I adore this series, as you can see. It is worth at least trying the first couple of books to see what you think.

My Rambles:

This is a reread for me. I still really enjoyed this book. The first time, I believe I gave it a 5/5. I guess because then, it was new to me and seeing all of this for the first time. This time, although there were things that I had forgotten about, I pretty much new what to expect. That's the only reason it didn't get a full on 5/5. Not because it wasn't a great book but just didn't give me the same love I remember having before. It's kind of hard to explain how I feel. I loved it this time and last time but just not as much because this time it was just to familiarize myself with the book again. 

This time, I knew what to expect between Clara, Tucker & Christian. Before, I was #teamoneperson, this time, I became #teamotherperson. I guess because I knew what would happen so I gave "other person" a good second look. I don't think I am giving away too much. Both are mentioned in the summary so many things are implied. 

Angels/half angels, demons, humans, boys, friends and all the things that come along with that are here in a sweet story about family, figuring out life and all the things mentioned above told in this YA book.

(I don't remember exactly when I started the book. I just know it was earlier this month so, I just put June 3rd)

My Rambles:

It's not that it was a bad book it was just...I don't know...not great either. It was just...good. She wasn't as bad with the descriptive sex in this one even though that last one, I had to skip ahead for about a minute to a minute and a half or so. The overly done sex scenes and just the use of a cringe word for me (the same thing they call a rooster), took it down to a 4 for me. Beyond that, it was still just, okay for me. Which took it down another star or 1.25 stars...which brought it to 2.75. So, it would have maybe been 3 stars if it weren't for the first-mentioned things. The story itself doesn't deserve to be so low even with other flaws that didn't include the overdone sex scenes (no, I'm not so much a prude than me just really not needing all of the erotica type descriptions to get the point that they're having sex/ I mean, I'm 45 years old as of this post with two sons. I get it, folks get it on!).

I used to love Sandra Brown's writing but the last few books I've tried by her just threw me off because of what I already mentioned for what seems to be the millionth time. lol...I gave her another try in hopes that I would find books that weren't so bad. This one was tame compared to whichever it was that I read last time about 3-5 years or so ago. I've been wanting to read Mean Streak for the longest but kept putting it off

Okay, so, how long can I talk about this...you all get it...I didn't like certain aspects of the book. So, I will say, if you love mysteries, love Sandra Brown, don't mind the descriptions of "sexy times" as some say. Then, this book may be more for you. I would still recommend it but with a caution sign.

My Rambles:

As always, I enjoyed the book. It wasn't a favorite but still really enjoyed it all the same. This is part of a series but I do believe it can be read on its own. There may be some things that may be semi confusing when mentioned because it was a part of other books. But mostly, it could be considered a stand-alone. The book was predictable but I still loved the characters. Especially the love interest. He was my favorite from the start.  

Kasie West is an auto-buy author for me. I love her characters and writing. I can barely wait to see what's next. 

Well, there's not much else I can think of to say so I will hush and end it here.
